krayzykat musings

random. often cat-focused. sometimes a little nutty sort of online diary with ventings, thoughts on life, food-related tangents, etc. probably not interesting to people who don't know me...

ooo-de lally

i spent a chunk of time this morning singing disney songs with a co-worker, and the robin hood 'n' little john song is not leaving my brain any time soon. i could be humming worse things, i suppose. for some reason, that reminds me that i attended church yesterday, for the first time in, oh, about a bajillion years. for once i didn't head for the childrens' sunday school, but joined the adults, and thus was introduced to everyone (as happens every few months when i show up - it's starting to get mundane, "well hi sister so-and-so, i'm me. don't worry, you'll have forgotten all about this meeting quite soon, apparantly, since this is the third time i've met you". maybe i should start wearing beads and waving a charm around to fit the part.
also, i am having some weird apple craving. the claimjumper dutch apple pie i've been ploughing through is just not enough. i had to have baked caramel apples as well, and i had to eat them all, even though they didn't turn out as well as hoped. i wouldn't have stopped except that i have run out of both apples and room in my stomach. but i want more. i also want more veggie spring rolls (ran out a few days ago) and i don't even like chinese food.
i just realized that i blog a lot about food, and the randomness of what i eat. if i had time, i'd make a food-blog. mmmmm, food-blog. i should name a sandwich after it. i think the toast with ground beef/onions/salt/pepper/cheddar would be a good foodblogwich.
homer simpson moment....

twilight

well, twilight (our smallest cat) has finally been spayed. she us up and about, and the fur is growing back on her shaved little stomach. at first i felt bad for her, but she is making it perfectly clear that she feels GREAT! she moseys around, sniffs things, then randomly sails impossible distances through the air to land on top of dressers, fish tanks, etc. that most of the cats twice her size can't jump to if they try. she is being more social than i have ever seen her: begging for petting and scratches, giving licks... she even let me brush her the other day. and her voice has gone from an obnoxious "MMMmmmrrrRRROOOOOOWWWWWwwwrrr" to a tiny "brr" or "mmmow". she's eating great, and only threw up twice so far this week (a new record). i am very impressed. so life is treating her fabulously now, and she is making me envious.
i wish people could get spayed for $100.

vacation

well, this past week was different - i took off work, and april visited from utah, and we did many many wonderful things in the southern california sunshine. i can't remember any of them right now, for some reason. oh yes, that's right. it rained and hailed all week. i forgot. so we really didn't do much. watched half of seinfeld season five, read some books, bought the books, bought the seinfeld... we did trap a couple of feral cats and take them to a feral cat clinic. monday cleared up and was gorgeous. and monday afternoon, april's flight left. so we had about an hour at the beach (frigid) and a half hour at a park on coronado. and another hour in the airport because the flight was delayed (two waters and a twix bar cost $8!!!). some vacation. poor april. and i go back to work at 5am whoopee. better go put the wheel back on my bike.

well, shaggy's back as of yesterday (napping now) and i am glad of it. it is startlingly strange to have someone else in the house though. i don't think a single other person has come through the door the whole time he's been gone. of course, i've barely been here myself what with all my recent work adventures. speaking of which, saturday will be my last day at the la jolla location. it is being harder to say good bye than i thought it would be. several of the associates said they would like to see me back there sometime. so i'm thinking if i get them to repeat that several times after i leave, then we move a tad closer (which was in the plans anyway), then i could ask for a raise to work there full time...
i am a big fan of money at the moment, what with wanting to pay off the car before the warranty runs out and all. it would be my luck if the warranty expired and then it fell apart and i would still owe a couple of grand.
we went to the wild animal park today. there has been a lot of publicity recently regarding a lion cub who is being raised by hand. apparantly his mom had to undergo a c-section, and keepers were worried that she wouldn't recognize him as her cub since she was unconscious while he was born. that's the story anyway, but i can't believe they didn't even try to see if she would accept him! so little koza is being bottle-fed, and has been given a dog for a companion. a dog! i think some other big cat would have been more appropriate. my little friend tonka the mountain lion was an orphan, and he was introduced to two leopard cubs his age, and grew up happy as a clam (at the fund for animals wildlife rehabilitation center) with his adopted brother and sister.
anyway, the lion and dog were both napping when we saw them. very cute though. and i am a fan of the fact that the puppy was a rescue (from hurricane katrina).
while at the park, we also saw many, many birds, some antelopes, baby giraffes, and a dik dik. the meerkats were also quite active, running around and playing like i've never seen before.
and the timer has just gone off, so i am going to rescue a claimjumper apple crumb pie from the oven before it overcooks. so long!
